Q. Do you have a pricelist?
We do not have a pricelist as all of our wedding cakes are individually designed to suit all your your personal requirements. Typically a three tier wedding cake is priced from £360, a four tier wedding cake from £435 and a five tier wedding cake from £575 however these prices are dependent on your choice of flavours and level of work the design requires.
Q. How may we order our wedding cake…..do you have a shop?
We work from our homes and therefore appointments are necessary Should you wish any of our own styles simply email us with the date of your wedding, preferred flavour for each tier, your reception venue and the approx. number of guests and we can forward you a finalised quotation with deposit requirements. If you wish to discuss your requirements further you may email or telephone to arrange an appointment. Should you wish to sample our cakes at your appointment there is a charge of £25, please advise if this is necessary as we only bake our samples when requested to ensure they are fresh.
Q. When should we order our wedding cake?
To avoid disappointment, wedding cakes should be ordered at least nine months in advance, particularly for summer weddings. However, this is only a guide and sometimes we are able to accommodate last minute orders.
Q. Can we only have your style of cake?
Of course not….we would be delighted to create a bespoke creation for you! Our wedding cake gallery is here to show you our style of work and help inspire you however we never reproduce another cake makers design especially one from a cake maker local to us! We are happy to look at pictures you send or bring to help give us an idea of the style you hope to achieve and then we will design a bespoke creation for you using our own skills and materials.
Q. Can you deliver our wedding cake?
Yes of course. We charge a minimum delivery & set up fee of £25. However should you wish to collect your wedding cake please be aware that each tier is boxed separately along with the decorations and will need to be transported on a flat surface, once at your venue it will need to be assembled which in some cases can take up to one hour.
Q. What flavours do you offer?
Our homemade cakes are baked using the finest local and where possible organic ingredients that we can source! We can offer the following flavours as your cake........
Vanilla cake with a vanilla buttercream & strawberry filling
Chocolate cake with a chocolate buttercream filling
Luxury fruit cake soaked in finest brandy then covered in marzipan & icing.
Lemon cake filled with a fine buttercream filling
We are happy to offer different flavoured tiers!
Q .We would like to use fresh flowers on our wedding cake; do we buy them from you?
No - we advise you to discuss this with your florist as there are many types of flowers that are poisonous if digested and can effect the surface of icing. We are happy to provide an iced cake drum for top tier arrangements using fresh flowers as this will avoid them coming into contact with the cake surface. There are also certain types of flowers we can re-create using icing!
Q. How long before our wedding is the cake prepared?
If your wedding cake is a fruit cake then we will bake them as far in advance as possible depending on when the order is placed. The fruit cake needs regular feeding and maturing with brandy. If your wedding cake is sponge then we will bake these the week of the wedding. The day prior to your wedding is usually when we cover the cakes in icing as they like to settle overnight……the morning of your wedding when we place the decorations onto your cake!
Q. Do you bake your own wedding cakes?
Yes. All our cakes are baked in our kitchens using our own recipes. We are approved and inspected regularly by our local environmental health offices.
Q. I am allergic to nuts. Can you make me a nut free wedding cake?
Unfortunately we cannot accommodate this as we use allergen's such as flour, nuts and dairy ingredients regularly in our kitchens.
Q. How will we be sure you will make our wedding cake as per our requirements?
With all wedding cakes we design and produce we will send you a contract that will have all the design and flavour details for you to check, sign and return to us once you are happy we have all the details correct. This is the sheet we will work from. All our terms and conditions are also detailed on this sheet and should you wish a copy of them prior to making your decision as to whether you would like us to make your cake that's not a problem.
Q. How many tiers will we need?
Your tiers will reflect the number of portions you require and our portion guidelines are as follows…..
Round Shaped Wedding Cakes
Three Tier
1" x 1" Portions - 170 slices or 1.5" x 1.5" Portions - 95 slices
Four Tier
1" x 1" Portions - 185 slices or 1.5" x 1.5" Portions - 100 slices
Five Tier
1" x 1" Portions - 300 slices or 1.5" x 1.5" Portions - 165 slices
Square Shaped Wedding Cakes
Three Tier
1" x 1" Portions - 255 slices or 1.5" x 1.5" Portions - 120 slices
Four Tier
1" x 1" Portions - 280 slices or 1.5" x 1.5" Portions - 135 slices
These are our estimates only and each venue will differ on the methods they use to slice your cake for serving.
A vanilla cake & lemon cake will provide less portions due to its texture therefore we recommend servings measuring 1.5" x 1.5"
We can also supply additional 'cutting' cakes which are presented on cake boards and covered with icing to offer further servings should your cake design not yield enough portions
You can also consider using 'dummy' tiers if your design is going to provide too many portions!
Q. How may we pay for our wedding cake?
We accept cash or a cheque made payable to 'J Mason' A non-refundable / non transferable deposit of £50 is required to secure your date within seven days of your booking being made. The final balance is payable six weeks prior to your wedding. Once final payment has been made preparations are started to create your cake and unfortunately refunds are not possible at this stage.
